Petsafe Yard And Park Remote Trainer Review
May 10th, 2010 | Published in Pet Product Reviews
My youngest Pomeranian (Bear) is a hand full, especially if we try to take him out for a walk, whether it’s on the leash or off the leash. He’s bad about running off and we kept trying different training methods to get him to stop, but nothing worked until we found the Petsafe Yard-and-Park Remote Trainer.
It has 8 electricity settings and while I didn’t think that a “shock collar” was the answer (this is how I viewed the product before I bought it), my boyfriend talked me into it. I can’t stand an animal to be hurt, but to be quite honest, this product doesn’t hurt the dog on low settings as much as it does annoy them. But, when you’re dealing with a dog that tries to run off or chase things when you’re outside with them, correction is necessary to keep the pet safe from getting into the road, just like with a human child.
A great thing about this product is that you can actually add another dog or two to the same remote with the Petsafe Add-A-Dog Receivers. This is good if you have more than one dog. I have two Pomeranians, but thank goodness the other one is well behaved enough to listen when I call her. :-p
The only negative thing I’ve heard about these (and I suppose it’s not really a negative) is that your pet may respond differently if you already have an invisible fence around your yard to keep your pet from leaving it. Which is understandable, since if your pet expects to be shocked only when crossing that barrier, they may become confused about why they are getting shocked when they’re not even close to it. So, if you already have a solution for your yard area to keep them from leaving and only need to keep remote control of them when you are out and about, this is a good thing to have.
The remote also has about a 400 yard operating range on it, which is pretty good, considering many people seem to use these collars when they take their dogs out with them hunting, hiking, and camping. Losing a pet in the outdoors while doing these things is quite common and having the Petsafe trainer gives peace of mind most others can’t. Additionally, the receiver (not the remote!) is waterproof, so don’t be afraid of using it in the rain.
In addition to being able to use it to keep your pet safe, you can also use this to correct other unwanted behaviors, like chewing on furniture, jumping on people, and for basic obedience training, like sit, stay, etc.
So, if you’re looking for a product that can keep your pet safe and assist you with day to day obedience in your pets (cruelty-free), the Petsafe Yard-and-Park Remote Trainer is for you. I haven’t regretted it since my purchase and I don’t think you will, either.
